Arne Slot has stated that the club's hierarchy are aligned with his perspective regarding the recent downturn and he refuses to compromise their forward-thinking philosophy in quest for a turnaround. The manager conceded that six unsuccessful results in seven games was below standard ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Slot accepted the pressure was on before his rotated squad suffered Carabao Cup elimination against their Premier League rivals. However, he maintained that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the club's ownership or executive leadership following a significant spending of approximately £450 million.
"We share common perspectives," commented Slot, whose squad will encounter Real Madrid in the continental tournament and travel to Pep Guardiola's side in the English top flight.
Slot believes his team "possess an exceptional group if they are completely available and all ready for the programme we are facing". He said that the recent signings in footballers like the German international and the forward, who is expected to be sidelined again against the Birmingham club through fitness issues, had left the club "in such a good place for the near future and the years to come".
When questioned about why his team were struggling to integrate, he replied: "That question isn't constructive. 'What's causing this?' I provide reasons and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can come up with several explanations why we are not winning as much or suffering defeats as we do but, as I say every time, there are never enough excuses to have a performance streak as we had now."
Only the Clarets (21) have faced more big chances from open play this season than the Merseysiders (nineteen). The league leaders, Arsenal, have conceded only two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the team has been overly exposed and claims there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a more pragmatic style after ten fixtures without a clean sheet.
"I don't see us giving up numerous openings so I don't see a reason to alter our approach entirely but we must improve in preventing goals," he declared.
"Against Manchester United, how many openings did we give up? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we hardly conceded a attempt on goal. In all the games we played until now we haven't allowed a lot of chances. Absolutely not. We do give away a bit more than the prior term but that is related to us being 1-0 down so you become more adventurous. But overall I don't think that our problem is that we give up too many openings. Our problem is we are unable to finish the openings we produce."
