The offspring of previous South African Leader Jacob Zuma has pleaded not guilty to terror charges at the beginning of her trial in the port city of Durban city.
The defendant, 43 years old, is being tried over comments she made on online platforms four years ago during deadly protests in South Africa that occurred subsequent to the arrest of her parent.
A week of chaos in several parts of the country in mid-2021, including looting and intentional burning, caused at least 300 individuals killed and caused damage worth an estimated $2.8bn (£2.2 billion).
The defendant has been charged of encouraging this turmoil and confronts charges of provocation to commit terror-related activities and public disorder.
The demonstrations were concentrated in the provinces of the Gauteng province and KZN and came after the former president's arrest for disobeying a court order to testify at an investigation into accusations of graft while he was serving as president.
The defendant has consistently rejected the charges against her, with her attorney previously describing the state's case as insufficient.
She has also consistently stated the allegations against her were an effort to resolve political grievances with her dad after he founded his own political organization and competed against the ruling party.
This was supported by the Zuma foundation, which claimed the proceedings was an "abuse of power" and a "coordinated attempt" of "politically motivated and family-related persecution" against the previous head of state and his kin.
A handful of followers from her party, the political party, turned up outside the judicial building, while her father and other group representatives attended the court sessions inside.
Her legal team has maintained that the proof presented by government lawyers is inadequate and lacks substantial evidence for a criminal finding.
The court case continues as all parties present their evidence before the judicial authority in what is projected to be a highly monitored court case with substantial political consequences for South Africa.
